The consultation with the physician

As soon as you have reduced your list to two or three names have a consultation, if necessary, with every one of them. Not only to get a personal impression, but also to talk about your wishes, ideas, possibilities, risks and fees.

Here too: there are no silly questions. Write down some of your questions before – too often, people forget to ask important questions.

Important: Ask beforehand if the first consultation is free. Most doctors ask a fee. Even if you decide to have a different doctor operate you the extra money is well invested.

You should always carry in mind not to be talked into something you don’t really want. According to the law (Ärztegesetz) the doctor is obliged to give you the advice which is “in the best interest of the patient” if it is a paid consultation. If you get the feeling of a sales arrangement, watch out

The surgeon should take his time to answer your questions in depth, understandably and wholly. He should ask you about your motives and expectations and discuss alternatives. He should not try to talk you into any unnecessary operation. He should answer your questions concerning his qualification, experience, safety, costs and the details of payments.

Not to talk about risks would be completely unserious and a mistake. Instructions for the time before and after the operation are important. As well as the explicit remark that results of operations may differ from photographs or computer adapted pictures which you might have seen before.

Dr. Metka sticks to all those criterions and will always find with you the optimal combination. He charges for the first consultation EUR 110,-, which will be credited to you for the operation.
